Why is this important?

Having an impact in a core requirement for progressing in all endeavours and especially in work.

Having an impact is vital to gain satisfaction in what you do.

How we can help?

Based on our work with effective people and organisation, Aphelian Consulting have developed a framework for helping individuals to have an impact. The framework consists of 6 components.

The 6 components are described in more detail below. The components link together in a symbiotic and interrelated manner which means that all the components are needed to have an impact. The Impact framework is also self-reinforcing in that it grows stronger and more effective as people become skilled in the individual components. The components work together to help you achieve your goals and have an impact in what you set out to accomplish.

Imagine your goal

Imaging your goal requires you to visualise your end result, whatever it might be. Picture yourself doing what it is that you want to do or being the person you want to be. Imaging your goal is central to the other components of IMPACT by providing the underpinning rationale for having an impact. Keep focused on the goal and never let it out of your mind.

Maintain motivation

You must maintain your motivation throughout the journey. Benjamin Frankllin said that people so often give up achieving a goal when they are so close to achieving it. If only they have maintained their motivation, commitment and energy for a little while longer, it is likely that they would have accomplished what they set out to do. Keep imaging your goal and use this vision to maintain the motivation to carry you to the finish line.

Plan

Planning is all about breaking your goal down into achievable milestones and steps along the way. The plan plots your route from where you are today to where you want to be. It is a road map, a route planner which will ensure you reach you end destination.

Assume responsibility

Responsibility is the recognition that only you can achieve the goal. Make a commitment to do everything in your powers to achieve your goal.

Cooperate with others

While much can be achieved through independent action, to have real impact required the active co-operation, involvement and support of other people around you.

Take action

All the preceding steps will have no effect unless you take action and actually do something. Taking action is a key differentiating factor between those people who want to be effective and those people that are effective. Theodore Roosevelt once said "There is nothing brilliant nor outstanding in my record except perhaps this one thing. I do the things I believe ought to be done ... and when I make up my mind to do a thing, I act". Seneca said "It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult".
