Why is this important?

Innovation and leadership are vital to organisations but without effective implementation of the resulting action plans and decisions they lose their power, benefit and impact.

The keys to successful change management are well known and ignored by organisations at their peril.

Change is often necessary at both the organisation and personal level

How we can help

At the organisational level, we use lessons learnt from successful change management programmes to take a holistic view of change to encompass, take account of and manage the myriad of factors that impact on the success of change and thus drastically improve the chances of successful change outcomes.

At the personal level, we use the concept of the five stage process to help people deal with change.  The five stages are:

1      Denial

This stage is characterised by denial of what has just happened.  People often respond by saying 'I just couldn't believe it' or 'It's hard to believe ..'  People who have good fortune can sometimes say 'I couldn't believe my luck!'

2 Anger The next stage normally follows on quite soon and is a response to the realities of change becoming clearer.  People can often become defensive and are more likely to react in a uncharacteristic fashion.
3 Rationalisation
The rationalisation stage is reached when the person asks 'why?'  There is a search for meaning as people try to make sense of the change.  People need time and space to become accustomed to the new realities.  Some people can cycle round these first three stages for some time before moving on, in most cases, to stage 4.
4 Acceptance In this stage, people experiment with the new reality and seek ways of making the change work.
5 Growth Fully accepting the change, people now begin to seek ways in which the change can be beneficial to them.

In helping people through individual change, we are very careful never to sympathise, give advice or suggest what we might do but instead to help individuals progress successfully through the stages.
